regular black laser printer? I want to replace my black laser and color inkjet with one printer, would this be a good option?

Apparently the color ones dont work as well for toner transfers.

I've heard others say that a color laser printer doesn't work well, but I've used a Samsung CLP-300 (4-color laser printer) for hundreds of PCBs, and it worked great.  With a 4-color printer, one of the "colors" is black, and it worked just like a black-only printer for PCBs.  It may be that the success is dependent on the type/brand of color laser.  All I can say for sure is that it worked fine for me.
