volume pedal for loop only

My bassist is very dynamic and I need a compensator 

I temporarily rigged my wah shell as a passive volume pedal. I used the existing 100k pot and added a 330k pot to ground to set the minimum volume. It cuts some highs at lower settings and creates a slight hum but does work. I suspect a 5k pot would add some improvement.

I have been searching for an active design I could test, build, or buy if it's a proven design. I strongly dislike buffers but can sometimes deal with them in the effects loop.

any suggestions?

I have seen that schematic but what I want is a professional to personally vouch for their post. Otherwise please just let this thread die.

I can build random schematics and buy until I'm silly but I would rather avoid that (typical) route.

Hey man, welcome to the site. You've come to right place if you're building stuff for yourself (or for your bassist).

I'm not quite sure what you mean by a professional... We're all DIYers around here. The tonepad site and PCB business is run by a guy who's about as professional as you get in the DIY world, and the Anderton circuit is definitely designed by a professional.

A 5k pot would be better suited to what you're doing. Also an Active circuit may help also - often perceived tone loss occurs because longer cables can create impedance problems for musicians. If you're bassist is used to a 10 foot cable to his amp, and now has 20-25 feet to his amp, things will sound different. The hum could be explained by a ground loop or other things.

Perhaps the best option would be a commercially built volume Pedal made for bass. I'm sure there's lots of other DIY options, but the above project from tonepad could be a good option. It's essentially a buffer for your signal.

Nothing bad, I meant only that I was looking for a response like "I've been gigging with this for 10 years and bla, bla". It seems the only comments I can Google are how things didn't work or the woes of my very first amplifier. I will give that 5K pot a try

So does this mean you are going to plug this into your bassist's amp without him knowing, to cut down his volume?.

Just grabbed up a show for this Sunday. Good test run for the wah to volume conversion.

Volume pedal concept in the fail category for now. Adapting to louds and quiets is much more involved then a simple volume adjustment.
