diode isolated tap tempo switches

i read that cusack effects puts diode isolated outputs on their tap tempos if they're connected to more than one tap tempo pedal.  what's the advantage of this?  which diodes are useful?

HE does that so that the pulse for the tap tempo can only go to that pedal and not back to an other. So that they will be out of sync.
