Hello,
I've just built the Small Clone from Tonepad and I have problems debugging it.

1.Name of the project:
Small Clone

2.Links to the source of the project web site with the schematic or project, layout and wiring diagram.
http://www.tonepad.com/getFileInfo.asp?id=97

3.Some candid admissions about how closely you followed the suggested layout, if any.
All stock.

4.Any parts substitutions or modifications you made to the original.
Used 180pF instead of a 150pF capacitor.

When I plug it in I only get the clean sound through. I measured the voltages and they are not right. When I got 0.2V at pin 1 of CD4047 I measured the main supply line and right after the 47ohm resistor the voltage drops at around 1.5V. All of the voltages I got were either 0 or something below 1V or 1.5V to the pins that were connected directly to the power supply.

Any help would greatly be appreciated.

You need to give us the list of measurements if you can. It's huge, I know, with tonnes of parts, I know, but I've debugged it as well, so I hope to give you more help.

Good pictures will help us also.

Do you have an audio probe? That's the tool that helped me the most when I started learning to debug.

Here are the voltages:
CD4047:
1 = 0.38
2 = 0.42
3 = 0.56
4 = 0.43
5 = 0
6 = 0.42
7 = 0.4
8 = 0
9 = 0
10 = 0
11 = 0.36
12 = 0.26
13 = 0.33
14 = 0.42

LM358:
1 = 1.04
2 = 0.84
3 = 0.8
4 = 0
5 = 0.8
6 = 0.82
7 = 1.04
8 = 1.21

MN3007:
1 = 0.41
2 = 0.26
3 = 0.4
4 = 0
5 = 0
6 = 0.33
7 = 0.5
8 = 0.5

4558:
1 = 0.33
2 = 0.81
3 = 0.84
4 = 0
5 = 0.85
6 = 0.81
7 = 0.32
8 = 1.21

Q1:
C = 0
B = 0.5
E = 0

Q2:
C = 1.21
B = 0.71
E = 0.1

Q3:
C = 1.21
B = 1.18
E = 0.4

Like I said previously they are not good. The obvious thing to check were shorts but I didn't find any. I should also mention that I noticed that the LM358 gets warm a bit and after a while there is a bit of smell.

Unfortunately I don't have an audio probe.

What ended up happening with mine was that Q1 was backwards for me. Nothing else was the problem. So the numbers, other than Q1 are alright if you look at that thread.

In comparison to mine, all your measurements look to be wrong, so I would start at your power and see why the power isn't getting to the IC's right. There is a trimmer - have you tried adjusting that to bias the circuit?

Don't worry about the trimmer until all the voltages are ok. Are you sure you didn't reverse any IC? Especially the one that gets hot? It might already be broken so you could get it out and see if the rest work. Hope you used sockets...
