SC1849 best replacement

What's the best SC1849 replacement? Yes it's for a Dynacomp. I still can find the MPS 5172 but the other one I don't. On the other hand I find 2N3904 a little different of the original SC1849: lower gain (100-300 vs 90-650), higher colector-emittor breakdown voltage (40 vs 25). I don't know if this matters in this circuit.

Not sure if it's exactly what you're looking for, but I know that MPSA18s can be used in this circuit; the collector emmiter voltage is 45 and the gain is usually around 400-500, I think.

2N5088 are quite versatile aren't they? Maybe it's hard to beat their low noise/high gain combination...
