Pots - Values

What is the significance of a pots value.  I get linear and analog.  For instance, what would be the effect of using a 100K pot where it calls for a 10k?  Thanks

Depends entirely on where it's used.  It could change input/output impedance of a gain stage, it could change the total range of what it's adjusting, it could change the frequency response of the circuit.  It all depends.  So, specifically, what are you thinking of changing?

Yes, I see that now.  I should have been more clear.  I am building the ROG Omega (http://runoffgroove.com/omega.html) and all I have for the MASTER is a 100k pot.  I forgot to order it when I ordered the rest of the parts and my local Radio Shack doesn't carry any 16mm pots.  I could order it, but tonight is the perfect night to build with my wife away and all - you understand.

You could use a 100K instead of a 10K on the volume control just fine, I'd think.  There might be some travel on the pot that doesn't have any effect, but it should work.

remember, you can always put an 11k - 12k resistor in parallel across the 100k pot to make it 10k, but it will not have the same sweep as if you acually used a real 10k pot

Great, thanks.  I'll try the resistor.  And then I'll change out the pot on my next parts order.  I appreciate the all the help
