hi guys, been poking around looking for illuminated toggle switches

ive found some really nice ones, but they are all rated at 12v

do any 9v ones exist?..especiallly in the uk would be handy......they do look really cool, shame if they dont.

Hmm.. I'm thinking the 12V switches will still light up at 9V, but dimmer.

really,hmmmm... might just get one then and try it...there are some real nice ones out there!!!..
surprised nobody in the pedal world does em...

How about something like this (Mode electronics)

It uses an led for illumination so you just have to size the limiting resistor properly.

Andrew

Actual size is much smaller :icon_biggrin:

ha ha. actual size...

i was looking more for the toggle types rather than the car dashboard type!..

cheers rob.

Something like that would be very rugged. I sometimes use toggle switches in my builds, but I'm worried about damaging them with my feet.

It's rare in the pedal world to be toggling DC voltages though; usually your toggling signal through different components.

hmmm i was sent this as a reply,

look very kickable/snappable to me...he reckons they will work on 2v..hmmm...

Another variety:
http://www.rapidonline.com/Electronic-Components/Switches/Toggle-Switches/SPST-Illuminated-toggle-switch/74543

12V switches are usually just an LED with a series resistor (data sheet should show this). They should work fine on 9V.

These are the coolest though. I don't think they have an internal resistor:

Get 'em while they're reduced! The regular stock are more than £5 each!

Manny

Those NKK ones from Farnell look really nice!
It looks as though all of these only light up when used to toggle a voltage source on/off though.
I guess they'd need more sets of contacts to light up as well as toggle something else.

Any ideas?

@merlin b . yep those were the exact ones i was looking at..

would they work on 9v do you think though?..

love the bottom ones..very classy..

question though!...how would these be wired to be a normal toggle on /off..but with the powered  led?..hmmm..

Depends which ones you use. With the Rapid ones linked to by Merlinb the signal that you are switching is also what drives the LED so these are only really any good for switching a DC voltage. You could use them for switching signals if the signal was also capable of driving the then LED, but that's not what they are designed for.

The fancy Farnell ones are just like a normal toggle switch, and have a totally separate section that handles the LED. So you can use these like a normal toggle for whatever you want to switch.

Manny

I'm thinking of buying a couple of those nice Farnell ones.
The only thing that's confusing me is the config in the description, it states:

Switch Operation:DPDT On-Off-On

DPDT switches are normally On-On, not sure where they're getting this center off position from?

Any ideas?

Cheers,
Manny  :)

On-Off-On means the switch has 3 positions, the normal 2 and a centre position where nothing is connected. Looks like Farnell also do normal On-On versions.

Ok, that raises the question then, is the LED switched on in both positions?
Might be good for some series/parallel resistor/cap/diode madness.

Edit: Bugger it, theres only one way to find out, I've ordered some.  :)
