Looking for fuzztone recommendations

Hi y'all,
I was hoping that someone might have some recommendations for a fuzz circuit.  I'm currently playing hard rock (QOTSA, and similar influences) and I'm using Vox Night Train with moderate gain.  I've tried a variety of fuzzes and haven't been able to settle on one that isn't too mushy or too bright, or just plain too noisy.  I know it's probably the fact that I'm already using medium gain, and sticking fuzz on top is just going to make matters crazier, but hey, a boy can dream...
So far I've tried a couple different fuzz face derivatives (ahem, DAM?), Swollen Pickle clone, Woolly Mammoth clone, Danelectro Cool Cat, and Joe Gagan's One Knob Muff. I've gotten quite a stack of fuzz boxes here...
Any other suggestions?

A germanium FuzzRite is definitely not mushy and won't be too bright because of the germs....and it's loud, nasty & an easy build.

Here's the return of the Mosrite FuzzRite... A good instrument (Ge and Si) as pointed by LuciferTrips.

Have a look to :

In the 2 transistors series, you may also consider the Shin-Ei FY-2, if you want an additional mid scoop effect.

Even more simpler is the Muff-Fuzz...

A+!

If you're looking for a bit more labor intensive build, try the Univox/cord Superfuzz.  That guy's nasty, here's a good demo...

something a bit easier might be a Standard FuzzFace, but the Positive grounding, PNPs, and Ge trannys tend to give folks lots of trouble... maybe Si, NPN, neg gnd? simple two knobs...
Gear: Epi Les Paul (archtop) w/ 490R in the neck, and SD '59N in the bridge; Silvertone 1484 w/ a WGS G15C

Still a tubey noobie. Been doing this a while, and still can't figure much out, smh.

That's right. The SuperFuzz give a mid-scooped tone in one of the slide-switch tone position which is amazing... On my pseudo-clone, I used a FSW to change the tone instantly :

Of the same vein, you have the FoXX Tone Machine, where there is no scoop switch, but fuzz / fuzz+octave switch, more agressive (GGG PCB) :

But these pedals sounds way different from FuzzFaces and Mosrites, and indeed are more laborous to built, as pointed by Brossman.
