Mid pot for GGG Big Muff

Hey everyone.

I built my first stompbox about 10 or so years ago: A General Guitar Gadgets Big Muff. I dusted it off and would love to add a mid control to it, but haven't had any luck finding a schematic.

I know some of the pcb manufacturers sell boards with the ability to add some kind of control to add some mids to this circuit, but I'm not sure how to add it to the GGG board.

Does anyone know off hand what this involves?

I modded a Big Muff for a friend two weeks ago, and he loves it, saying that it now works equally well for all his guitars.

I didn't install any sort of "mids" control.  I simply changed the cap values in the tonestack.  For the treble side, I made the cap 5600pf instead of 3900pf.  On the bass side, I made the cap 8200pf instead of .01uf.

You still get a contrast between full bass and full treble, but there's more "meat" to each extreme.

Recently this came up. I haven't tried it, but this is another approach, just a pot with a cap and small inductor

Try this type of tone stack.



Change around the values to taste, but you end up with a very usable two knob tone control. The mid control slightly boosted sounds very nice to my ears.

The BMP is a VERY maleable circuit with a bazillion possible mods and tweaks.  If one tallied up all the mods suggested on this site over the years, the BMP and TS9 would be neck-in-neck.  But sometimes all you want is for it to just work right and not require bending over, mid-gig.  Like Liz Lemon says:

Taken as a matter of course, Sir Antonis!  How could one tweak an electronic effect or amp, or record, without beer? I'd sooner lose my soldering iron

Download the Duncan Tonestack Calculator and experiment with the component values. I built my Big Muff from a GGG kit as well. I used a double pole three position switch to give the mids a scoop, flat, or hump.

No law against it.  But the question arises: is it a Big Muff anymore?
 
Although one of the blessings if being a DIY-er is that one CAN implement such add-ons.  But the way I look at it, one of the other blessings is that one has the freedom to just let a circuit "be itself", and build something else that accomplishes what other goal one has in mind.

bridge tee or twin tee in the feedback-loop of an opamp does the trick. just like the twin tee wah in that other thread you started.
