hello everyone im just new here and im asking a noob question...

here it goes...

at our place the audio taper pots arent available only the linear ones...
what if the DIY pedal schematic requires a audio log pot but i substitute a linear pot
will there be a big difference? what would that be.. ?
sorry for the noob question thanks

Linear taper only affects the rotation of the pot.
A linear taper will work but the knob will be in a different
position and not be a smooth transistion across the posts travel.
For instance: In a volume control the level of the effect will
raise much quicker with a linear pot. So for example with an
audio pot the knob may be at 12 o clock whicle with a linear
pot the knob will be at 9 o clock or maybe earlier.

The principal differece would be that the distribution of settings across the whole rotation of the pot might be problematic.  All of the "interesting" settings might be clustered together is a small arc of the pot's rotation, making them harder to nail, and reproduce.  You can still get all the same settings; it will just be harder to get them exactly the way you like. In those circumstances, it might sound dumb, but a bigger knob can help, by making the distinction between setting A and B visually easier.
