Wah pedal popping

Just converted an old Vox wah to true bypass. I mean somewhat old, the jacks aren't board mounted and there's no input buffer.

I added an output buffer, Mr. Jack Orman's leaky germanium buffer, wired negative ground with a PNP germie. Used one of the free ones he was sending out.
I put 1M pulldown resistors at the start of the wah circuit, and after the buffer.
There is no LED, and I'm using a blue 3PDT. I added a 9v jack, and that's where the buffer is taking power from.

I have since:
-Replaced a microphonic (dunno how) wah inductor.
-Changed to a new 3PDT.
-switched to input grounded wiring
Switched out the 1uF output cap in the buffer for a new one.

It's not as loud, but still noticeable. What's happening here??
