EA Tremolo - Unique Problem

So I've assembled the EA Trem kit from GGG, following this layout:

I'm having the strangest problem with it, unlike any of those I've found in this forum via search or Google. You see, the tremolo effect is working, but the speed/rate knob does nothing, the volume knob does nothing, and the pedal wont work unless both the "boost" and "trem" footswitches are on. The depth works, and the "wave" pot I added seems to work (its just a 100k pot between R6 and ground).

All the transistor voltages match the listed values in the manual, although I'm suspicious about the gate voltage on Q2 as it's jumping around like crazy (even though it's listed as "variable").

Any suggestions or advice on how to get this thing fully operation would be most appreciated!

All signs point to a conflict between the pinou of the FET you are using and the layout of the board.
