ok s this is the 2n5089 version. only changes i made were 560pf instead of the 470pf and a different tone stack but the tone control works fine. the gain control works like a volume control in reverse at max the signal is fully attenuated. the volume control on the other hand doesn't seem to do anything at all. but other than that it still sounds great and definately high gain. ive checked the gain pot wiring and looks wired correctly. ill go over the whole circuit as soon as i get a chance but does anyone know offhand an obvious reason for this?

DiscoVlad

Well the most obvious reason, is because the gain pot is wired backwards. ;)
Swapping the wires to the outside lugs of the potentiometer should fix it.

haha yeah i quadrupled checked it and realized the pot wiring diagram i was looking at was wrong (been a while since my last project and didn't remember) so gain and volume were backwards. Then i made two mistakes when copying the schematic to paper which fixed my problems. works perfect now thanks!

Off subject, ive been thinking about building the obsidian overdrive. How does it sound? Can we get a good sound clip? I know of one on youtube that is crappy quality so a nice HQ recording would be greatly appreciated

Harry

sorry i don't have the capabilities to record a sound clip. well i think it sounds good most of the other people who built it liked it. I think its definately worth it.
