anyone built a big muff and bypassed the tone stack?

I know one of the new big muffs (bass big muff?) comes with a switch to bypass the tone stack.  has anyone ever built theirs like this?  I'm thinking about doing it, as i've just finished up to Q3.  I'm trying to avoid the R+D on it because by build time is at a premium... so if you guys say it sounds like crap i'll just finish it the stock way and not waste my time with wiring in a switch.  I'm using a modified NYC schem and using the pedal on bass.

Also, anyone ever try another set of clipping diodes on Q4?  How about anywhere else in the signal chain?

I did the tone bypass mod on my muff.  It's cool, I don't really use it that much because I've also done the mid boost mod to the tone stack which I prefer.  A lot of people really like the tone bypass mod though.

As far as clipping diodes on Q4, I wouldn't even bother.  Q4's purpose is just a volume boost to recover the losses from the tone stack.  I can't see a good way to insert clipping diodes into the stage.  You'd probably be better off adding another stage like Q2 and Q3 if you want more clipping.

Yep.

It's a lot more open sounding, and much better for playing live, as you don't have that huge mid scoop from the standard tonestack, so can cut through the mix better.

Even more interesting is the tonestack switch of the "Large Beaver" at buildyourownclone.com.
It´s possible to use a standard BM pcb, as you can solder all the additional caps to the rotary switch.
Should work as a mod for an original EHX pedal as well, if there´s enough space to mount the rotary switch.

Did it for a op-amp BM once, didn't like it.
If I was to build another, I'd do the mids mod with another pot to make it adjustable.
