Apologies in advance but this topic is going to wander a little off piste but as there are some pretty keen electronic brains on here I thought it may be of interest.

I've just read an article in What Hi-Fi reviewing mains power leads for audio equipment. I was astounded that many of them were well over £100 and claim to make a significant improvement to the clarity of audio.

How?

Surely the power lead's sole function is to provide 240v 50Hz with sufficient capacity to match the power draw from the equipment.

...and it's the power supply's job to provide a rectified, smoothed, stabilised supply.

Is my bullshit detector working overtime or just out of calibration?

There's a reason they call them "Audiophools".
