Hi, I built a tonemachine from scratch from here: http://fuzzcentral.ssguitar.com/foxx.php
as far as i can tell, i did everything correctly, but it doesn't seem like the effect is working (neither fuzz nor octave) bypass works normally (using millenium bypass circuit) and when the effect is on, there is sound, but it's quiet and sans effect, and if i turn down the sustain, the volume decreases & vice versa, also, there's some kind of ground issue with the sustain pot (buzzes when i touch it) and in the picture on the site where i got the schematic, it appears there's a wire from ground to the back of the pot, so i tried that and it solved the ground problem, but everything else is the same, i can post some pics if necessary, thought maybe someone could give me some advise though

Our best/only? hope beyond diddling is to read:
Debugging: What to do when it doesn't work.
Sticky thread. Depicted within it is the way we/you/all of us can assist.
It seems like a bundle of parts stuck to a board until how to measure what they're up to in there begins to find what's making them not work.
Check for no-short condition between circuit +/-, before applying supply voltage to the circuit.
Convention creates following, following creates convention.

DEBUGGING - What to do when it doesn't work

Voltages.

Battery voltage very near 9.0V
Emitter of Q1 near 0.6V
Emitter of Q2 near 1.2V
Collector of Q3 above 2V and below 7V.
Collector of Q4 above 2V and below 7V.

Voltages:

i'm using dc, but on the 9v in on the board it is reading 9 v
Emitter of Q1  0 v
Emitter of Q2  4.5 v
Collector of Q3  5 v
Collector of Q4  .2 v

davidand

wait,

i read those wrong

emitter q1  .2
emitter q2  .19
collector q3  2.8
collector q4  4.4

davidand

i figured it out,

q1 was not working
