renewed love affair with my DS-1

I've done quite a few mods to my DS-1 and i've fallen back in love with it all over again.  I use it for bass and it was buzzy and thin out of the box and didn't have quite the level of grind i needed, so i went to work on the clipping diodes, gain section, tone section, and added the mid knob mod.  Now i can get a great SVT growl out of it, or if i crank up the distortion I can achieve an SVT-about-to-blow distortion.

Now if anyone knows how i can get more low end through, bring on the suggestions... it's still a bit thin.  I use an EQ pedal right after but the pedal is still sucking some low end from it.  Increase coupling caps?  increase in/out caps?

Congrats on getting a DS-1 to sound anything other than fizzy and awful.

Sounds like you've pretty much re-built it.

Bass Players I know swear by a buffer / blend box to mix the DS-1 in with your clean signal.

Your low-end will be retained, as will the 'punch' of the lower strings - even in a busy mix.

I found this link, i might try it out... although i really don't want to lower the gain.  in the posts below the mod someone suggests different values so the stock sound is almost retained, but with more lows.

lol, do a search for "ds-1 earthscum" and you will find what I've used in mine and how it's modded. I can't remember right off hand what I've done... I believe I may have done the fat mod, led/Ge clipping, and a 47n cap across them. Maybe something else. With dist at about 3 o'clock, it gets a bit of grind. After that it starts to tip easily from OD to Distortion, depending on how hard you play. I can get near an overdriven tube sound outa mine if I use some lowpass (about 2.5k-20kHz). As of late I use my FX91 as a signal softener. I play Ibanez GS205 through a Peavey TNT 115 BW. It kicks ya hard, but also lets the typical highs of the Ibanez through a bit too much.

BTW, I use my DS-1 more as a bass enhancer/OD/Dist. The bass out is tremendous, and you know when I kick it on... the mood gets deep and serious  :)
