Using vero board -- total NOOB question

So, here's my dumb question...on Vero Board layout pics, I see where the components are placed on the board...BUT...are they actually placed on the "strip" side as the layout pics suggest on a first view, or are they placed on the other side, so that the pins/legs hit the strips? (in which case, the component views in the layouts represent where the components actually are placed on the other side of the "strip" side in relation to the strips themselves...)

Clarification, please, Jedi masters.

Stripboard is basically a PCB in straight lines.

Also logic should guide you to the answer - how could you solder the legs of the components if they are in the other side?!
(well, actually you can, but the real way is smarter!)  :icon_lol:
