Who carries 2N4302 or 2N4303?

I had the instance of looking for 2N4303 and 2N4343, which are used in the Vox Beatle amps. Didn't find any that were reasonable to get in terms of price and delivery.

I wound up rehashing the bias to use 2N5485 and J175 instead. But that's very circuit dependent. I'd be happy to take a look at the circuit to try to figure out what direction to change what if you don't find any.

In response to the questions in the forum - PCB Layout for Musical Effects is available from The Book Patch. Search "PCB Layout" and it ought to appear.

TEN DOLLARS for a general-purpose JFET?

And 2-3 day shipping makes me wonder if they really have stock, or are brokers.

If Mark needs more than one, he's way-ahead re-thinking the circuit to use a half-dollar JFET.

And if Mark is needing more than one, he probably wants quasi-matched quads. Odd-lots from old-stock brokers will give worse matching than new-production taped parts from DigiKey et al.

I had done a quick Mouser/Digikey search and thought "Well maybe there is another major distributor I haven't looked at that one of these folks normally deals with".  Apparently not.  So I guess all those people who own some of those older pedals with 4303s in them (like some of the EHX pedals or the Maestro S&H) are going to have to approach buying replacements the way other people think about fixing pedals that run off an SAD512 or SSM2040 or whatever.

A shame, but so it goes.

I wonder what currently available FET would provide a functional substitute.

I found a source that has them in stock. Most of the goodies that this particular shop has do not show up in a Google search on a part number, and there is a large minimum order. But that is what we are here for. They will be posted in about a week, $1.00 each.

Mark, I remember coming across this a couple of months ago when I was asking Google the same thing:

Just took ten years to round them up :)

Geoffrey Teese was kind enough to send me an off-line e-mail detailing another source as well; an organ supply place in Indiana.  A little pricier than Steve's anticipated price, but not drastically so (unless one is aiming for quantities, in which case the extra dollar adds up quickly).  I'll wait the week and see what Steve can rustle up.

Posted for sale, SKU 2100B1 and 2100B2. I don't know who actually made these. However, this source is famous for having humungous stock of old Fairchild/National die-lot from which they do good-quality work-alikes of Many parts. Let me know how they sound.
