hi, found this on the web, thought since i had all the parts kicking around, i'd try it out...

http://www.instructables.com/id/Make-an-easy-guitar-distortion-pedal-STEP-BY-STEP/step20/Adding-a-bypass-switch/

modded it a little bit for a gain/bias control, and added a switch so i could use either led's or silicone diodes for the clipper.
really nice warm brown overdrive sound, may be a worthy project for lummoxes like me that are just starting out to try...

i built the circuit board on a piece of cardboard, of all things..lol.

so anyways, here's my really poor quality schematic i tried to draw...there may be mistakes, i am really new at this stuff, here it is, the burnt-toastie overdrive:

i hope someone finds it useful....

question...can i just tap off the power supply to add another transistor to this, so maybe i can add a simple tone circuit?

thanks...
peace

It looks like NPN neg Gnd.
Any NPN Neg Gnd. active stage can share the power supply, another transistor is N/P as far as current draw.
See some distortion or amp simulator schematics for examples.
Convention creates following, following creates convention.

cool, thanks so much! lookin' forward to tinkering some...i'm assuming from the schems i've been looking at, you just need to add another stage to the power supply with
a cap and a resistor?

this is way more like tube amps than i thought it was.

thanks for the advice and guidance!
