remote stomp switch and multiple clipping on a Gen. Guitar Gadget TS replica

I am building my first pedal. A General Guitar Gadget ITS8. I want a remote foot switch using a guitar cable to connect it. Can someone tell me how to wire it to the existing switch? (keep it simple, Please). I also want to put in a rotary selector switch for the clipping . I noticed there are 2)red LEDs. If I use different color LEDs do I need 2) of each? Which colors would give me a greater difference in distortion levels? What else could I use for clipping?
