Is there a direct substitute for the 2N5485 and the BS170??
One is for the Millenium bypass and the other for the Boost itself.

Thanks

For the BS170 I used a 2N7000 (now I don't remember if the pinouts are the same so if you use it check) and for the millenium I think I've used 2N5484 and got away with it.

Smallbear has BS170s. Never bothered with the millenium, just payed a few extra bucks for 3PDTs. Have fun with the MosFet Boost. I just had the chance to check out mine with an Epiphone Casino and a Fender Twin. Very nice!

I used a J201 in one of mine, just brought the collector to ~4.5v and it works great !
Not that I'm recommending you solder one in there, but for testing, or just a different sound if a socket is used.
There are probably quite a few Q#'s you could use in that position [with varying results, I'm using 2n7000.
 Mosfet will be the cleanest.

Good~!! I have some 2N7000's.
The Millenuim is part of the circuit for tonepad. I guess I can leave it out?? I don't know if it will effect the circuit at all but I will try it.

So the 5485 is for the Millenuim?? If so then I won't worry about it.

Is the 2N7000 better than the BS170??

Personally I would leave out the millenium and use a 3PDT. The $3 difference between a DPDT and 3PDT is just not worth the aggravation to me. I am suprised tonepad included it as part of the circuit aimed at beginners, as it just seems to complicate things. Maybe the perf layout I used will be of some use to you:

Socket the transistor and try different ones, but the original design calls for the BS170. This is also the same transistor used in the ZVEX Super Hard On.

Ive read these are very static sensative and can be damaged simply by handling them...advised not to touch the leads if possible...

The BS170 I got from smallbear came in a regular plastic bag and survived it's implantation into my pedal, which probably involved a fair amount of handling. I got 1/2 a dozen just in case though.
