This is my first post here on DIY stompboxes, so first of all, Hello! How are you all?

I'm relatively new to building stompboxes, but I'm learning all the time. I've completed two pre-packaged kits (Dynacomp and Lineal Boost pedals) but have now decided to make a Phase 90 from a ready made PCB, and put the components together myself.

This is working out well enough, I've most of the bits and pieces gathered up. The main stumbling block I've come across so far are the 50nf (0.05uf) capacitors. I can't find any! I came across an American site who would sell me 10 ceramic disc caps for £1.99 but were going to charge me £14.00 for P&P. No thanks!!

First question. Why are they so hard to get hold of? Second question, could I put together two 25nf caps to make up the same value? and if so what would be the best way of doing this?

Thanks for any help you can give me.

Use a 0.047nF Cap  :)

At some point, the standard values changed and that's what we ended up with, here in the U.K we get 47k Pots, where as The U.S. has 50k, it's just one of those things... either will work in the others place.

Remember a cap has poor tollerances too so at 10% Tollerance, a 50nF Cap could be 55nF or 45nF, so a 47nF is perfect.

You can add caps if you want for the future though, add them in parallel, divide the value in series so 2 x 100nf in Series = 50nF

The same for resistors except reversed, so add them in series etc.

Hope that helps!

Thanks Scruffie, very helpful.

I had suspected this was the way to go, but wanted to check with people who know what they are doing before committing.

I'll post how I get on with the build once I get all the parts together.

Cheers
