Hi
OCD pedal
I want to know if anybody has experimented with substituting the 2N700 mosfets with other semiconductors eg J201 or similar jfets or germanium transistors, is this a feasible thing to do as they seem to be wired as back to back diodes like the screamer and othe similar OD pedals.
Also there is a 1n34 in series with on of the mosfets is that there to add asymmetry.
My diy build OCD is my best OD pedal and I like it as it is, however I am curious about whether it could be improved or made more versatile.

Different clippers will yield different flavours and levels. See what you come up with.

A good overdrive pedal shouldn't be all that versatile. It's like a tube amp, if you want versatile, build a fuzz / distortion pedal to combine with or use a (treble) booster in front.
OCD is perfect. Don't mess it up to much.

Don't waste germanium transistors for this. They sound a lot like a normal silicion diode. Unless you have lots of old, otherwise unusable germanium transistors just use a diode.
