In response to the questions in the forum - PCB Layout for Musical Effects is available from The Book Patch. Search "PCB Layout" and it ought to appear.

That being said I buy Neutriks here (Canada) for <60¢ each for monos and <70¢ for stereos, never had an issue with them. Also never had problems with any of the various Neutrik/Rean plastic enclosed jacks.

I also like the Neutrik jacks. Never had a problem with them. They are cheaper than the Switchcraft jacks and IMO just about as good.

100% agreed.

I'll try the Neutriks/Switchcrafts!

Btw my favourite jacks are all those black plastic enclosed type of jacks, maybe they are better? All of my commercial pedals use them and they feel better than my own builds.

I don't really like those. I've seen too many that had cracked and caused problems.

plastic ones are nasty imo too...

i like my jacks to ground on the box. 8)

I don't like the Cliff jacks. I have gradually been replacing them on my amps with Switchcrafts. Had a lot of failures with them.

+1 for Switchcraft.

Why skimp on the part that actually makes connection with the instrument and is unplugged/plugged a ton of times

A good indication of a crap jack is the cheap flanging on the back. There shouldn't be any splits or cracks

I hate this^. I don't know how many times I haven't been able to tighten the nut without the whole threaded part starting to turn. I solder the flanged part to the back now when I have to use these.

I found this out the hard way about 8-12 months ago.  I think i just got used to crap quality jacks and kept buying them, id never used a good quality jack before.  I bought a bunch from my local.  Had 3 of them came loose / spin around when tightening, but also the tip and sleeve ended up making contact somehow rendering the jack useless.  Spent hours trying to find the problem though....

Decided to give neutriks / switchcraft jacks a go.  I remember the first one that i soldered onto.  The solder just flowed like water.  I think i may have cried tears of joy..

Suffice to say, never bought cheap jacks again.  Honestly, for a price difference of approximately a buck each, is it worth it?

Hi Paul,

If it's not a secret,  where are you getting them from?
