As far as I know, no one besides smallbear sells them. I'd be interested to hear about any others!

So it's not as much about cost, because you clearly know that you can find occasional bargains on E-Bay and such. You want a different stylle, correct? This is tough, because pedal shells are invariably made-to-order in the thousands for a particular manufacturer. Most manufacturers don't want their chassis used for DIY; they view that as a lost sale of a pedal. Other than Eleca (whose shell I buy) I do not know of any wah pedal maker that makes their chassis available for DIY. And I had to approach Eleca...it was definitely not the other way around.

Getting a small lot of a cast shell made-to-order is not practical.  How handy are you? Have you though about figuring out what you want and executing it in wood? Or in sheetmetal if you have a local shop that can fold parts for you?

There was a member here that was making some wah/volume pedal cases of his own design, and I think he was selling some.  Does anyone remember who that was?.

I got two broken Crybaby's off of Craigslist for $30. Both shells were in perfect condition. Actually, one of the pedals took 5 minutes to repair the circuit (some idiot's botched mod), and I plan to sell it again for $35 once the other is finished. So, basically I got a wah shell for free and made $5 in the process. These kinds of deals are not hard to find. My point is, you're crazy if you pay the high prices for a brand new shell unless you are specifically making the pedal to sell.

You probably want a wah in its own enclosure, but an idea that struck me recently, was the idea of making the wah circuit in a separate box with the input, output, tone, range, vol-whatever, With a bypass switch. And wiring a jack in place of the wah pot. That way you could have it all in a cute little box, and control it externally with an expression pedal, This is my plan ;D

please don't do this in albuquerque. i have had good luck by walking into local music stores ( leaving my leopard skin pimp vest and feather hat at home) and asking if they have any broken wahs or pedals in the back. they usually say no and walk me to the door with a disdainful glare, but every once in a while i hit pay dirt. broken wah, 10 or 15 bucks. that is now i scored my snarling rufruf mold spore along with a few other gems.

tony, that is a good idea. my only concern with it is the taper of the pot in the expression pedal. somebody, build gus's wah so we can get to the bottom of this taper issue.

Dunlop makes such a product (or at least they used to).   It was a rack-mount box that could be controlled by multiple pedals as I recall.   I forget what it was called, but it was a rack-mount CryBaby system.
