I recently picked up some transistors that I can't seem to find info on.
I buy most of my stuff from here: http://www.apexelectronic.com/index.htm

Pretty much 99% of what they sell is NOS stuff.

I picked up some 2N440 (Not a typo) trannys.
TO5 package some silver in color some black.

The black ones are made by CBS. At least they have a big "CBS" on the top. the sides have the 2N440.
Silver ones no idea of manufacturer

They are NPN Ge (pretty sure).
Stuck a few of them in a Shin-EI FY-2 clone I built the other day and they sound pretty good.

I've tried looking for data sheets on these but no luck.

Anyone have info on these?

Not much info but you are right, they are NPN Ge's. The best thing to do is build RG's transistor gain tester and see how much they leak and what the gain is. Your ears are the best test though.
Cheers,
Chris
And you'll have to admit, I'll be rich as shit
I'll just sit and grin, the money will roll right in....

Thanks.
Site bookmarked :)

Hfe is in the 40 - 60 range on those I have tested. Haven't done leak or other tests yet.
