A year ago I built an AMZ mini booster on stripboard. I absolutely loved it, so today I finished a second one, this time on the AMZ PCB from Jack Orman. I used all the exact same component values. Now this new version does the boost thing properly, so in a sense it works, but it sounds very trebly. Like, all the sweet, buttery softness of the bass frequencies is completely stripped away and I'm left with earpiercing mids/highs. The previous build was fine...Any suggestions what to look for when hunting for the problem?

Additionally, I left out C6 and replaced R5 by a 10K pot to control the gain. Doesn't really impress me though, would adding C6 back in be a good idea? Would turning the pot have any effect? (Need to replace the pot anyway, it had a dead spot in it's range).
