It's not a capacitor.  The page says it goes in place of the tone cap.  It's actually a pair of back-to-back diodes - most likely shotky or germanium.  Same thing as that Black Ice deally.

If it is, then those diodes must have a *tiny* forward voltage to work off the raw, un-amplified guitar signal.

I've seen something similar marketed as 'Black Ice' I think.

It's not a capacitor, they say it goes in place of the capacitor on your tone pot.

My guess is that $7.99 gets you a pair of anti-parallel Schottky diodes in a blob of epoxy, hence their disclaimers that you need high output pickups to get an effect from it and that if you run it into a clean amp you might notice a volume difference (which will be a cut, as the guitar signal is being hard-limited).
