I remember a while ago seeing a basic input buffer being run off of a AA or AAA battery, maybe two. Anyone know anything like that? I want to put a buffer in my chain, but i don't wanna use another 9V batt, and i don't have anymore spots on my PP+. If none exists, could a BJT buffer be fun off of 1.5 or 3 volts?

Thanks,
Julian

Hmmm. With a J201 or MPF102, you'll get output distortion with voltages that low probably. In my experience, I was unable to go lower than 4.5v before I started getting unplesant clipping, even with some modifications to existing schematics floating around out there. You could just buy a very small project enclosure from say, radioshack, that is large enough to hold a 9v battery and that tiny circuit, and wire your cable right into the box on one side and have a stereo output jack on the other that connects the 9v- to gnd.

If you happen to run into that schemo though, post it on here as I'd be interested in seeing it.

Here's the problem. Defog is correct, there is such a low voltage from a single battery that you will likely get distortion unless you then go do some up-verting to get more voltage out of the battery. Yes, you can work a JFET or a BJT from 1.5V or 3V, but the output signal range is very, very limited, so it becomes a distortion/clipping device on signal peaks.

Why not let your PP become just a little bit pregnant and daisy chain two pedals on one of the PP outputs?

In response to the questions in the forum - PCB Layout for Musical Effects is available from The Book Patch. Search "PCB Layout" and it ought to appear.

Edit: disregard. Didn't read.

What RG says: a single PP+ outlet should be able to power 3 to 5 standard pedals (like buffers, boosts and dirt boxes) with a daisy chain.

thinking on it, i might just do the daisy chain, even though i already have a few chained... but im sure a tiny little buffer wont be an issue. There might be some experimenting tho with a AA...

Thanks guys!
