The MunkyDIY site has been down for a bit and I lost my printout...

Anybody have a schematic link or file for Doug  Deeper's Garage Fuzz?

Thanks
Richard

...one of the best non-vintage fuzzes

I tried 20-30 different transistors and the only ones that had the same quality as DD's pn2222 choice were the 2N5550's

Thanks!

I just looked at the schematic.  I think this one is Doug's other designs.  I remember reading the thread.  It's very FY2 esque.  The
Garage Fuzz is the one which uses the second 2222 as a negistor.  This one looks good, too, though.  Was gonna futz with the Fuzzrite again since I never could settle on my tweaks but I'll try this, as well...

Where's the Garage Fuzz!?!??!

LucifersTrip

well, they were similar names...I just remembered the one I posted above is called The Psychedelic Fuzz

Run this at 18v, 9v are not enough to make the 2n2222 work as a negistor.
Also, I noticed that there is a loading fx or something on Q1, feeding its base a little more can help.

so drop the 2M2 for 1M8 and add a charge pump? thats what your saying. no way I'm burning up two batteries for one pedal.

no, no charge pump! only that I changed the bias of Q1, used a sort of Big Muff Pi stage.

Thanks, Ork!  I had seen one of those threads but not the 18 volt one.  Thanks for the info mac and Ork.  I will try to do this today.

Thanks Lucifer, too.  Good to have both these fuzzes in the same place now.

I'll report back if I get anything useful...

EATyourGuitar

so you put a gain stage in front? I could still use a charge pump though right?

I breadboarded this with no luck. Tried it with 9v and 18v. I got the negistor to turn on at 18v but didn't get anything decent sounds. Gave up after trying several different types of metal can 2222's. I ended up scrappin' it and building a simplified version of that Fuzz Fixx, the Fuzzrite with the booster.  Sounds awesome.

Another idea to experiment with would be to replace the second 2N2222 (the negative resistance oscillator part of the circuit) with one that would reliably exhibit negative resistance effects at lower supply voltages - something like a tunnel diode or a lambda diode maybe?
