I didn't get any answers on the other forum where someone posted this schematic...kind of a simplified Big Muff

I got a very average tone...definitely Muff-ish...nothing great, with 2 X 2N3904 (hfe ~ 200-225) and these voltage readings:
Q1 > ebc > 0, .18, 3.65
Q2 > ebc > 0, .60, 6.12

Does anyone know what they should be?  Is this another 4.5-er?

I was just about to start swapping out different gains of transistors.

Yeah, I would aim for like 4.5V for optimal operation. Keep in mind that people may not have answered because no one owns one of those old fuzzes. ::)
My response is just a guess, too. ;)

there were actually people that had originals or clones who were posting on that thread...

4.5 is somewhat a guess since I have a bunch of fuzzes that are not even close to 4.5 when they sound the best, but I believe the Big Muff collector voltages are approx 4.5

Just a guess but I'd say anywhere from 3 to 5v is about right.
What are you getting now?
From what I remember while reading about this one, it's not as
saturated/fuzzy as a BM.

I'm getting a very average fuzz with some fat muffy-ness in there... what maybe could be described as a big muff with the fuzz knob turned half way.

I should get around to trying different gains/transistors soon and try to drop that 6.12 a bit

Well, but I don't think the guy who originally posted that it was right is he a regular...and DiscoFreq isn't a techy guy or a regular, either. Don't even get me started on mictester.  :D
You have to be reasonable about it. :)

the voltage readings are one of the easiest to take and one of the most basic requirements when diagnosing any circuit

You're right, but again, DiscoFreq is not a regular, and he runs a fairly big website. I don't really expect him to answer back in a timely manner....

this conversation is kind of a waste...but two last notes:
-there were many people posting on that thread
-it was not necessary for anyone to even take actual measurements, just take an educated guess from past experiences
