Hi, I have joined the forum in order to find help with a problem that boggles me. I am a poor, self-made musician, and thus have been modifying and repairing all my own gear since the beginning. Now I need to ask for help yet again....

I searched the forum for a while to see if anyone has already raised this issue, but I didn't find anything relevant, so I assume it's safe to start another topic for my question:
I've nearly broken down a newly acquired pedal for cleaning, but I can't seem to remove the indicator light without breaking it. As you can see, it's a DOD Bass Stereo Chorus effect(FX62) with a single LED right in the middle. Although I have only used this and one other DOD pedal, I'm assuming this LED mounting method is common among them because their construction is identical

Now, look closely. You can see that there are four plastic tabs directly enclosing the LED, but within the plastic ring in which it is mounted. Could these be the key to removing this light? Is there even a good way to remove it without breaking it at all? Do any of the members here know or even care at all???

I'm not too opposed to simply ripping the thing out and then superglueing it back in place when I'm done, but if there is a known way to easily remove these I would love to hear it. Thanks very much! :D

Why remove it? Make a sketch of the wires, de-solder the LED from the circuit, and when you put it back together...re-solder as was. Done!

It looks similar to the LED holders that I use (these).

On the ones I use, the LED holder presses in from the outside, and then the clip-- the black piece in your photos-- slides on over the LED holder. You then press the LED in place with a bit of force, and the plastic tabs of the LED holder snap around the rim of the LED, permanently locking it in place.

If I were to remove it, I would try to pry the black ring off the LED holder. Once that pops off, the LED will pop right out. For reassembly, put the black ring on, and then press the LED into place by applying pressure between the pins of the LED.

Good luck. :)

If you're not doing it for yourself, it's not DIY. ;)

I think that it is as Mike says, though I am not sure if the black ring goes on before or after the LED is in place and vice versus for removal. Have you tried to slowly wriggle the black ring free? I have a bunch of what I think are the same/similar that I recently got to try from futurlec, but, I have not yet used them.

I believe the way those work is:
-You insert the part with the 4 tabs from the outside of the pedal.
-Insert your LED into it from the inside.
-Then pop the ring on around it to keep it from coming out.

The easiest way to get it out, is to slip a thin flat screwdriver under the ring and pry it up. If you're gentle enough, you won't damage anything.

*edit* I see I pretty much just reiterated what Mike said. I should have done more reading and less commenting.
If it ain't broke...   ...it will be soon.
