When I built up the Orpheum Fuzz, I tested all kinds of silicon and germanium trannies before settling on some Japanese 2sb176 germs with hfe around 150. It's the best sounding Fuzz-Rite type pedal I've ever built!! Also making the input cap switchable with bigger values worked out great.
