there's plain no way to eliminate hum with single coils. period. it's the nature of the beast.
shielding the control cavities of the guitar can help with noise/rf, but the hum will not be affected in the least.

you can shield the actual coils on the pickups as well, but it will not nuke the hum as some people claim (cof! dan torres)
and it will change the tonality of the pickup.

but there is a rather easy solution that works imperfectly, but 100% of the time. this won't work for the "always on 11" shredders set,
but for those of us who actually use the knobs on our guitars, it is a proven fix.

it's simple.

roll back your volume control a little bit. even with a cranked fuzzface, the hum will become less noticeable, and if ya need a little more volume, just turn your amp up.
i have a strat with 2 p-90's on it i use live all the time. turn it down a little, ya turn the hum down, too. your signal while playing should be more than enough to mask it.

but...like i said, it won't help the guys who never touch their knobs...but the more dynamic guys that twiddle their knobs all nite anyways, it can make a huge difference in the noise floor you deal with. it doesn't go away, of course, but if ya can't really hear it anymore, does it matter really?
