How close is a 500 pf cap to having just a jumper. will there be a noticeable sound difference. It connecting to the 3rd lug of a treble pot then to a 1uf that leads to the output? Reason I ask is I dont have pne or nor do I have anything close to .0005 uf caps wise. Its for a 2 band eq pedal. music man stingray 2 band eq to be exact. Its not listed on the parts list but it is on the vero layout as C9.

Thanks sands

I wouldn't jumper... Got a schematic? If it's only passing signal (no DC), a jumper would effectively have the same effect as a huge cap, not a little one...

I'd try it out with a 1nF cap. Got any on hand?

You might also find Duncan's tonestack calculator useful for this... if your tone stack is one of the typical kinds, you can plug in your cap/resistor values and see how it affects your sound. Maybe your smallest value will work out just fine

heres the schematic, Im not good with images on computers so this is the best I could do. Hope it works. Your advice is appreciated.

It is very far from a jumper. That capacitor is one of the main frequency response determiners of the circuit. You really need to order a suitable cap for that if you want the circuit to act as designed. It will work if you put any cap at all in there, but it will not work as designed.

On a more general note, it is impossible to make generalities about capacitor values and their frequency responses, other than the capacitor equation that Xc = 1/(2*pi*F*C). It's like the song "The Gambler" - every cap's a winner and every cap's a loser; you have to know when and how. Caps only have frequency related effects depending on the resistors and caps they associate with.

Thanks RG. I barely made it through math in high school. More of an english/history guy. I will get the right  cap for it, just hate when you place an order and leave something out like a 15 cent cap and now that I think about it the jumper idea makes no sense.

Thanks guys

I have muffed up checking an order list more times than you know.

I think that most people that barely make it through math in high school just didn't have the right teacher or see how it applies.

' course, I barely made it through erghish and hastery.   :icon_lol:

yeah left brain, right brain.... I took more art classes than any other elective and did great until they deemed my art too controversial to be displayed or entered in contest. Closed minded little town high school  ;D. Hey that was 12 years ago. Thanks for the response RG.
