I really like them. EVERY single one i have used, works.

25 of them that I bought, they all worked beauty in Rangemasters, and all fuzzers,.

I find they are still harmonic like good AC127, 187's but not as temperamental. I guess cause they are newer germaniums.

Anyone else have anything to say about 2N1306's

What gains are you working with there for the ones you have?

John

I have never measured gain Hfe on any trannie

Rangenasters, Fuzz Face's, Tonebenders, Fuzzrites.

Plug and play every time.

My Lead guitarist uses them and so do other musicians that have my boxes on stage.

Two You tube recording tests of the Germanium Mosrite Fuzzrite
Andrew Carrell Vero layout changed to NPN.

All vintage Disc Caps.
I used 1/2 watt metal film resistors I could not get carbon comp in every value for the build so I went with metal film. The EC is a 25V vintage blue Phillips Axial.

There are no leakage, HFE or voltage transistor measurements.

STICK IT AN PICK IT.

Video  #1 is with a Ge 2N1306 in Q1 & AC187 Q2

Video  #2 is with a Ge AC127 in Q1 & AC187 Q2

Imac built in Mic QuickTime recording.

The amp is a MicroCube. Volume: 10 Oclock, Gain 12 Oclock, Tone: 1 Oclock -  Black Panel amp - no effects.

NEXT:

I'll do Q1 - AC 187 - Q2 - 2N1306

Q1 - AC 127 - Q2 - 2N1306

Q1 - 2N1306 - Q2 - 2N1306

Yeah, I don't go by the gains per se. I was just curious
as different pedals sound, er...different with certain gains
(some circuits are sensitive to gain) and it's nice to get a base reading
so you know where you are with a particular transistor with respect to
repeatability.

Sorry I can't help there

lol

Next paycheck I'll get a Digital Multi

I do have about 4 analog ones but I need glasses now.
I really don't see to well.

Honest I'll get some outputs.

sounds cool, but where is your fuzz set on those tests? To me, it doesn't have that nasty Fuzz Rite sound. It sounds more like a heavy distortion with mild fuzz...or maybe a Fuzz Rite with the fuzz knob turned 2/3 - 3/4.

like John Lyons, I'd be curious for more info, specifically the voltages.   With Fuzz Rites and Fuzz Rite variants (like the Orpheum), it is much easier to get some type of good fuzz with a large range of hfe's.  Also, for a Rangemaster, you can use a pretty large hfe range...from maybe 60-100+...or even as low as 45, according to R.G.'s Rangemaster guide.

It is surprising you'd have tons of luck with Fuzz Face's and Tonebenders, though. Fuzz Faces can have similar Q1/Q2 hfe pairs and sound good, but TB's don't have the same hfe's/leakages for the trio.

A DMM is very handy, but this is superb as well:
Atlas DCA-55
Excellent for checking transistors, HFE, type, Vb, pinout, you name it...
