hi guys,
may be i'm braindead...likely...but i tried searching for an answer to my problem...i think i found my own answer, but let me describe the problem first.

i built this version, cuz i had the parts...used it with a nte458/j201...had to play with the leads a little to get it to work right. same thing with a couple philmore bs170's.

the thing works, and works well. it lights up like it should, and goes off when it should. not even a dim glow when bypassed.
but here's where it gets weird. when i unplug the input jack, the led will still work if the switch is engaged...i mean if the effect is on, and i pull the plug out of the input jack,
the light will stay on. it'll work like it should when the pedal is all plugged in.

but if you turn the pedal off, THEN the led comes on over about 2 seconds to full brightness. kinda the opposite of everything else i've been reading.

i tested the bypass circuit as reccomended by rg and others with a 100k resistor, and sure enough with the switch disconnected and just using the resistor from ground to the switch rail (vero, below) the led also works as it should. this was about the smallest layout i could do with my big fumbly fingers. ;)

i noticed that if i pulled out the input enough so that ring and ground were being shorted on the input jack, the dang thing would turn off like it should. so i played with it a little, and shorting the ring to the sleeve definitely did  the trick. but...that kinda defeats the purpose of having the jack switch the b+ on.

so anyways, i put a 100k resistor between the switch (ring) and ground (sleeve) of the jack. that kills the led too. but i am imagining it's gonna just kill the battery eventually, isn't it? and the dang thing still lights up and goes out completely unplugged...so can't really just chuck it in a gigbag and hope the battery will work at the gig (this is a really simple version of tim escobedo's harmonic jerkulator).

i'm stumped, as usual...any one got any thoughts? the pedal still sounds the same with or without the resistor, and the millenium bypass functions, but gets wonky without it.

something's messed up anyways, for it to be working when the pedal's unplugged, right?

i tried building another one, with a 2n3904 as a diode and the exact same value components, and couldn't get that one to work at all. ;)

thanks guys

boy...that was pathetic what an accurate assessment i made.

found my problem....in my haste to try and be slick and use up some wire fragments  i had kicking around, i had wired the ground from the bypass board to the negative pin on the power supply jack. ooooops. :icon_redface: :icon_redface:

connecting it instead to the input jack's ground (as i should have in the first place) solved all the problems. this thing works great now.

thanks rg, as usual, ya saved the day... this time you didn't even have to reply.  :icon_mrgreen:
