This would be my very first time doing any mod work. I'm really bound and determined to become more knowledgeable. I figured I'd start with a pedal I've had a long time and one that is easily replaceable. I'd really love to rehouse it and maybe do an easy mod or two to get my hands dirty and get comfortable doing this sort of thing. Can anyone tell me where to start first? What I'll need and maybe give some resources (websites, books, threads, etc) that may give me some step-by-step instructions someone new to this sort of thing could comprehend? I'm sure you guys get a lot of noobies here and I want to thank you in advance for your help to this noob.

Not so sure that's a good 1st project.  Those Boss pedals use switches that are different than the usual 3pdt switches we use around here.  Maybe someone else can explain what to do, but my instinct tells me you should start with something like a booster.  Consider ordering a kit with instructions.  You'll also need to practice soldering; find someone to teach you - or order the "confidence booster" from Smallbear.  I think that's meant to be a learning tool for new solderers.

Why rehouse it?
Not the easiest thing in the world to start with if you have no experience. Go with Greenmachine's advice.
Don't be discouraged though, just start on something simpler, because if you do make a mistake on a pedal like that it is a whole world of trouble to do the de-bug and find out what went wrong and that's just frustrating. Many people here had a hard enough time getting their first booster to work and that is something you can easily get help with from forumites.
Good luck getting started out.
