Hi all!

I have a Motorola PTT (push-to-talk) mic and I want to make it work without the accompanying apparatus.

Here is the schematic: http://www.kb2ljj.com/manuals/56-Motorola%20microphone/hmn3596-microphone.pdf

I am guessing the top pin (5, red) is both for audio and for V+, much like phantom power on normal mics. However, I am confused about the part attached to PTT pin (grn, 6), just below the 100k resistor. Any help here?

Suggestions of the ideal V+ would be appreciated as well.

What I want is just get the audio out.

I've monkeyed with a few of those I got out of old ambulances/fire trucks at my old job.  IIRC You don't need to power the mic.  there's a couple of metal contacts inside the mic itself that bend when you push the button and make/break connections.  find the two that run to the mic and it SHOULD work.  At least mine did.  They sounded cool but fed back like crazy live, some places I couldn't even use them even with the monitors turned off.

I would like to avoid modifying the mic itself, as it could still go into use it was originally intended for.

Too bad to hear about the feedback. I was hoping it would make a great distortion mic with the push-to-sing switch to avoid feedback when not in use...

I am still going forth and trying to make it work though, so any help on the circuit is appreciated.
