Pedals in Paralell - buffer needed?

I'm planning on doing a dual pedal of sorts that has 2 dirt boxes in parallel with the ability to blend them to taste, a clean blend would be cool too. I'd also like to have a switchable green ringer in series at the front end to add an octave effect. My question however, is would a buffer be required since the input/output impedences are more than likely going to vary? I'm thinking of doing a Big Muff and another dirt box yet to be decided, something a bit more bite-y and focused (open to suggestions for that as well!). I just feel like it can't be just as easy as wiring them up in parallel.

It all depends on the boxes you hook up. My personal preference is to have a well designed buffer in the front end of every pedal. Pedals like this would eventually overload a guitar, but the effect with only two in parallel would be very slight indeed. With clones of older pedals that did not have a high impedance input, the loading gets somewhere between worse and much worse.

The details of the pedals matter. A buffer is safe, but may not be needed for all pedals.

In response to the questions in the forum - PCB Layout for Musical Effects is available from The Book Patch. Search "PCB Layout" and it ought to appear.
