Am I a dummy (yes probaly) Ds 1 mod question

I am on my  third ds-1 trying to mod it (keeley seeing eye ) and i was not able to get any of them to work so I decided that I will test the pedal after I change each component and bam it does not work after the first change....does this have to do with the input jack?  I notice in only has one wire, does the little prong get grounded to the chassis or something? I try to use it out of the enclosure...is this a problem?  I am not a noob, i have built over 20  pedals and 2 amps, but my electronic theory is really lacking.  Any help would be appreciated.

Yeah, sounds like the jacks use the chassis for ground. Have you tried putting it back in the enclosure?

Yeah, lots of boss (if not all) pedal use the enclosure to ground the jacks  except one. I think it has something to do with star grounding ( http://www.geofex.com/article_folders/stargnd/stargnd.htm ).

Conect the input ground to the grund of the other jack and you are ready to go!
