i recently built a bass drive clone from this schem:

http://wlst.jp/effector/bassdrive/Bass-Drive-Rev.C.pdf

All is well except that when the tone pot is near the far left of its rotation it makes a pop noise and adds white noise....rest of the rotation works fine. I used a w20k but I just saw a pic with it using a w25k. Would this make a difference? Any ideas on why the weird spot?

No, the value of the pot shouldn't make much of a difference. I actually like using 5k linear pots there. It sounds like C12 is shorted or leaky. That would be my first guess, but that also means that the tone control wouldn't work right, so I'm a little stumped. Also, it could be that one of the associated resistors is shorted or they are the wrong value. Double check the values of R7, R11, R21, R17, and check for shorts. Try replacing C12 with another cap. If all else fails, then try replacing the pot.

yeah, I have read about using 5k and 2k pots there, but wanted to be as close to the original as possible....I will have to TRIPLE check the values and the caps....and finally the pot...and post back

THANKS!!

I know it's been a long time but has this problem ever been solved? Asking because I'd like to know if this PCB is thereby verified... ;)
