Layering Effect?

Can anyone think of a stompbox I can make that can record and allow me to layer more on top of the old recording? Preferably multiple times?  Preferably functional with Bass?

I've kind of liked the idea of adding this sort of effect to my rig for a while, but I haven't been able to do anything.  I did a quick search on here to no avail.  The closest thing I can think of is a Mobius Trip or similar looping pedal, but thus far in my search those haven't allowed layering.
This might be a case for the digital section, but if that can be avoided all the better.

Thanks in advance,

Go digital. Some things just get the job done better.

I have the GNX3, with the foot controller for remote control of the 8 track recorder. It does exactly what you ask, start/stop/play/record, arm and record a track, play it (loop), arm and record another track, play it simultaneously, etc., up to 8 tracks.

The foot controller comes seperately (FC200 I think it is). I made mine from an old 4 switch Korg multi-effect box that my nephew trashed. The schematic for the foot controller is available on the net.

If you don't want the effects do-dads, and only want to record and loop, there's a plethora of stompbox type loopers out there; Boss "RC" series, Digitech Jamman, Boomerang... All digital, and depending on what your exact requirements are, will do the job just fine.

Yeah, yeah... not as mojo funky and all, as an analog box would be, but probably a lot more useful though.
