removing a tone circuit?

If I want to build a simple two knob(Gain, Vol) version of a pedal(BSIAB, Tube Screamer) do I just remove the tone control from the schematic and then tailor the resistor/cap combo at the end to get me the kind of roll off I want?

I'd say by far the easiest thing to do would be to replace the tone pot with a trim pot, then just set and forget.
