Looking to build something along the lines of a catalinbread varioboost

Basically, I'm looking to get "close" to a humbucker sound out of a single coil or mini-hum guitar.

I've been looking all over for a schem for this thing with no success.  Some have said that it's a Craig Anderton Frequency Booster, but I've also read that it's got an inductor in it.  I've also been looking at the Seymour Duncan SFX-01, though really that looks like nothing more than a booster pedal with a few switchable caps on the input.  On the simplier side, that might work, but the video demo I saw of the Varioboost seemed really great.

I've also been doing some research on the Variatone control and the THD Quintet.

I've also got an old Crybaby GCB95 that doesn't really "rock" all that well anymore, so I was thinking of using the guts of that pedal and turning it something...not sure what or how though...

Any advice?

whoops, my mistake - the varioboost does not use an inductor - I misread that.
