The DS-1 Booster sucks!

***Forgive me if this has been discussed before.  I used the search first.***

So I'm sure most of you have read this great article by Mr. Orman: http://www.muzique.com/news/fat-mod-for-the-boss-ds-1/  It's a great article, fun mod, and opens up some other ideas.

But it wasn't to my liking.  Bass gets way too mushy, IMHO.  So I thought, why not just rework it into a *good* booster in the first place?  It sucks!   It's practically an LPB to begin with.  Since stock LPBs are a little muddy to begin with, and our goal is more pronounced bass, just make it an LPB.

To start:
-You can leave the transistor Q2 as-is.  Swap it with something else if you feel frisky.  Maybe a really low gain would be cool.  Dunno.  Haven't tried it.
-Remove C4.

Now, insert LPB flavors:  Let's use the 470k/47k one with a 390 ohm on the emitter.  Or whatever variant you like...

-Make R9 390.
-Make R6 47k
-Make R7 470k, but tie one end to the base of Q2 (left hole) and tie the other to V+.  (There's a wire jumper between C21 and D6 that works perfectly for this.)

That's it.  You may need to trim or increase the input cap C3, depending on your tastes.  Or if that's still too muddy or bassy, you can start increasing your voltage divider resistors.  Just keep your 1 to 10 ratio and have fun.  I've even gone as high as 10M/1M and it still sounded great.  (<---No noticeable added noise and way less coloration.)  LPB interpretations are quite loose.

Edit:  fixed a mistake.

Cool idea.  To me it sort of looks like the first stage of a BMP.  ;)

You mean in its original form?  Yeah, definitely.  But this takes the larger resistor and ties it straight to V+  and the emitter R is noticeably larger.
