OK, so I'm going to buy this starter kit http://bitsbox.co.uk/select.html#ElectronicsClub Second one down.

I want to build the fuzz war, and I've found this schematic

http://analogguru.an.ohost.de/001/schematics/DBA_FuzzWar.gif (took the img out, it was massive)
But bit box does not seem to stock the 2N5089 transistor. Is there an equivelant on their list that would work OK? I tried googling, but the alterntives are also not on the bitbox inventory.

Thanks
Edit: Found them on the site. I was doing a "it's not in the fridge" look.

It is addictive isnt it.
I'm already on my 6th build (work in progress). Rothwell love squeeze clone. I've always fancied one but couldnt afford it.
This is a way for me to trial lots of differant pedals, tweek them to my likeing when i learn what to do and how they all work lol.
Every circuit i have built so far works. Not first time everytime but hey they still work now and that makes me proud.
Thanks guys. this is a great forum.

Sounds like I'll be hitting you up for advice kipper  ;)

It's been almost 10 years since my first build (elektra distortion) and I can tell you that it really is an addiction... and it can even lead to the hard stuff like commercial clones, tube amps and hifi equipment  :icon_eek:

A npn silicon fuzz face is a good first build and can be educational if you replace the 33k with a 50k trimmer and the 8.2k with a 10k trimmer. Then you can get lots of different cheap npn silicon transistors and play around swapping them out and adjusting the bias. This way you get the experience of transistor swapping and biasing without the cost or troubles associated with germanium and since it's two transistors you can really get a grasp on how different transistors, different transistor gains and different bias settings change the sound and response of the circuit.

It will be a while before your hitting me up for advice Batman.
I'm a complete newbie and i dont learn so fast now i'm approaching my 5th decade.
What i lack in knowledge i make up for in enthusiasm.

OK i'll face up
Truth is i never did learn fast. I had a wild time when i was younger and destryed a few brain cells.
