Hi, I'm a noob here so be gentle  ::)

I read a lot of the Wiki and FAQs on here and gave painting an enclosure a try

I just wanted to say...

Even with a paint mask and doing the work outside, I was surprised how bad spray primer smells and for how long it lingers :P

The results look good so far, but I think I may try a different method going forward

Perhaps I should do hand painting or invest in powder coating

So, if you are new to this I suggest you think twice about using spray cans

What didn't you like about the spray cans? The smell?

I was thinking of getting one of these

but you always need one of these

I got one of those some time ago, great for small jobs like pedal enclosures.

I could do with one of those masks now though.

You need a mask with organic-vapor cartridges not only the P95 filters to prevent the fumes from being breathed in.

Something like this. http://www.leevalley.com/en/wood/page.aspx?p=62067&cat=1,42207,42220

I don't know.. sounds like these two do the same
Harbor Freight
Filters 95% of airborne particulates, strongly resistant to oil-based compounds
Low profile swept-back cartridge for better visibility
Resists organic vapors
Packed in resealable foil pouch
Maintenance-free: dispose appropriately when finished using

the other
they provide protection against organic vapors, dusts, and vapors of paints/lacquers/enamels when used with adequate ventilation.

But I have not tried the second, have you used them?

I have one of the lesser expensive ones in the link and as long as it's fit and worn properly you can't detect the odor of the solvents, if you can then something is amiss.
