Hey all, found an old schematic with a 2sk246 transistor.  Can I sub a J201 or 5088 or something like that?

Thanks!

It's a JFET. I'd start with a 2N5485, 2N5292, 2SK30, etc. J201 may work, may not. Depends on the rest of the circuit, as J201 is quite a low Idss.

In response to the questions in the forum - PCB Layout for Musical Effects is available from The Book Patch. Search "PCB Layout" and it ought to appear.

Hey all, found an old schematic with a 2sk246 transistor.

If it happens to be the BOSS FA-1, it's known to be a good preamp/EQ. The original FET is not expensive:

and is in stock.

I built the preamp stage to fiddle with on the breadboard:

http://www.smallbearelec.com/HowTos/BreadboardICDist/ICDist.htm

and made it work with both the OEM part and a J201. The JFETs that are out-of-stock right now will be coming back in the next few weeks as some of our "last buy" orders arrive.
